“Current” here meaning “always”. Because an obsession spanning four years can’t really be considered a passing fancy. It’s ongoing. Perpetual. And awesome.
As you can see, I have a lot of nail polish. That pile is a significant portion, but I’m telling you: I have at least 100 bottles of nail polish. Not including top/base coats. I have a problem.
It’s not really a shopping problem. Though I do buy more nail polish than I should (I likely average about one per month), I don’t buy a lot. In fact, most of my collection was free.
Free here meaning given to me. My friends know I love nail polish – I get some for almost every present-buying occassion. My mom paints her nails a lot too, and when she doesn’t like a colour, she passes it on to me. Basically, when you want to get me a present, nail polish is a good bet. Provided I don’t already have the colour (this has happened multiple times).
I have nail polish in every colour. I even have pink – a colour I don’t actually like, but have been known to wear once a year or so.
I love doing my nails. It’s relaxing and exciting and they make a great conversation starter. Especially when I’m wearing something nerdy. I love it so much I made up a list of challenges to do with my friends last summer…
captain sharmie’s 8 week nail challenge
- Your least used colour
- Metallic or glitter
- French tips
- Polka dots
- Follow a tutorial
- Water marbling
- Something epic!
I loved doing this challenge last year. It was a great way to connect with my friends when we were spread across the country. And it gave me an excuse to do something creative on my nails, rather than the traditional one colour manicure.
As a way to get back into painting my nails creatively, once a week (er, maybe) I’ll post an original nail art design based on this challenge. One or two might even come with a tutorial (if I can figure out how to get my camera to do what I want).
Beware: there are nerdy nails coming soon…
